Detox Pills for a Drug Test

Detox

Are detox pills for a drug test effective? There are several types of drug tests used to discover drug use for employment, the court system, medical purposes, and other occasions. Probably by far, people are most interested in knowing what are the best detox pills for weed, because weed is the most stubborn drug as far as staying in the system for a longer period of time and being detectable by various drug tests.

Types of drug tests

Urinalysis

A urinalysis test uses a urine sample to test for drugs of abuse and sometimes other drugs like nicotine.Procedure: You will be escorted to a private bathroom, where you will urinate into a specimen cup, producing 3 to 5 ounces of urine.
The sample will be given to the testing company and analyzed for drugs which may include opiates, amphetamines, PCP, ecstasy, Spice, THC, bath salts, and other drugs.
Detection window:
Amphetamines – drugs like Adderall, ecstasy, and methamphetamine are detectable in urine for one to three days.
Barbiturates – two to four days
Benzodiazepines – three to six weeks
Cannabis – seven to thirty days

Do detox pills work for weed urine tests?
Detox pills if effective, can mask drug use, interfere with drug tests, or clear toxins to undetectable levels to beat a urine drug test.
How long does weed stay in your system (urine)?
For a urine drug test, weed will stay in your system for anywhere from 2 hours for one time use, to 30 days for heavy use.

Saliva Tests

A saliva test will use a mouth swab of your saliva to test for drug use.
Procedure: The tester will have you open your mouth and will place a swab somewhere between the cheeks and gums and collect some of your oral fluid.
The sample will be given to the testing company and analyzed for drugs which may include opiates, amphetamines, PCP, ecstasy, Spice, THC, bath salts, and other drugs.
Detection window:
The detection window for a saliva test is only about 48 hours. It is used to test for drugs which have been consumed very recently.

Do detox pills work for weed saliva tests?
Detox pills could conceivably reduce drug metabolites to an undetectable level but this is unlikely. For saliva tests, a detox mouthwash is commonly employed rather than pills. Also, saliva tests only cover the last 48 hours, not enough time for a detox pill program to be effective.

How long does weed stay in your saliva?
Weed will stay in your saliva for only 12 hours for one-time use. It can be detectable for a month or more for chronic, heavy use.

Hair follicle Tests

A hair follicle test will test 1.5 inches of the hair on your head for drug metabolites.
Procedure: The tester will cut 1.5 inches of hair from close to the scalp.
The sample will be given to the testing company and analyzed for drugs which may include opiates, amphetamines, PCP, ecstasy, Spice, THC, bath salts, and other drugs.

The detection window for a hair drug test is a whopping 90 days. Drug metabolites for any substance you have taken will be present. However, one-time use or low-level use may not show up because the substance is present in only minute amounts.

Do detox pills work for weed hair tests?
Detox pills are not likely to work for a hair test. For hair tests, savvy smokers use bleaching and dying, detox shampoos, or the Macujo Method.

Best Detox Pills to Pass a Drug Test

What are Detox Pills?
Detox pills are products developed to detox drugs and toxins from the body. They may consist of substances which interfere with the accuracy of drug tests such as zinc, herbs that have a diuretic effect like alfalfa, substances to mask dilution like creatine and b-vitamins, or adulterants and oxidizers. These products are not legal in all states.
These nines states ban the selling of adulterants:

  1. Nebraska
  2. Maryland
  3. Illinois
  4. Arkansas
  5. Virginia
  6. South Carolina
  7. Pennsylvania
  8. Oklahoma
  9. North Carolina

Texas and Louisiana ban delivering any detox product, effectively making them illegal.
In Florida, Kentucky, and New Jersey, you cannot sell detox products.
Any of these laws could apply to any detox product you purchase, depending on how the law is interpreted. Most detox products do not mention that they can be used to beat a drug test. Also, most are based on dilution which can be done without buying any detox product.

Some detox pills work by diluting the urine by having you drink lots of water and also take herbs. These pills may then replace the lost creatinine concentration by supplying creatine and make the pee yellow again with b-vitamins. Therefore, drug metabolites are dilute and levels of creatine and color are normal, as well as ph and specific gravity, all of which are tested to make sure a sample has not been tampered with or diluted.

Other detox pills try to detox the liver, kidneys, bladder, and digestive tract with herbs which have diuretic and laxative effects. It is not known if these products are effective at actual detoxification but they enjoy a fair share of popularity. If nothing else, violent diarrhea convinces some people that it must be getting rid of toxins.

Health Risks of Detox Pills

Organ damage – many detox pills contain a mix of various herbs. This can put a strain on the liver and kidneys and sometimes cause an acute liver or kidney injury. It’s important to have good information on every herb contained in a product as regards to possible side effects.

Water intoxication – water intoxication is basically when your blood has become too dilute to function properly. Many detox pills work by dilution, but if you drink too much water without replacing electrolytes, you can have a potentially fatal reaction.
Too many vitamins or hypervitaminosis – There have been a handful of reports of reactions to too many vitamins in detox pills. Most common is niacin toxicity from high levels of niacin which can damage the liver or cause liver failure.

Criminal prosecution – As we discussed earlier, detox pills can be illegal in some states. Selling these pills are criminalized more often than is possessing them. Since the seller is penalized, you will find these pills difficult to obtain in states with laws against detox products. If you manage to get your hands on them, you still need to be aware of your jurisdiction’s laws regarding attempting to beat a drug test.

Also, certain organizations may have practices which penalize attempting to defeat a drug test if discovered. In any case, if you come into possession of a detox product, be discreet with it. Don’t leave it sitting in plain view in a car or take the packaging with you into a drug testing center.

Niacin toxicity – Some people attempt to beat a drug test by taking high doses of niacin. Taking too much niacin can cause niacin flush and in extreme cases, liver toxicity. Liver toxicity has been reported in case studies of persons attempting to use niacin to beat a drug test. There is little or no evidence that niacin can alter the results of a drug test, unlike zinc which has evidence of efficacy. In one case report, however, a man who became very ill from attempting to use niacin to beat a drug test was in fact tested and no evidence of drugs was found.

Meaning, although he became ill, the effect of that illness appears to have indeed caused a false negative drug test result, or perhaps he would have tested negative anyway without endangering his health. If he was attempting to hide evidence of marijuana use, it’s possible the liver failure prevented normal fat metabolism which halted the spillage of THC metabolites into the urine. This is a dangerous and unnecessary way to try to beat a drug test.

Allergic reaction – detox pills often contain obscure herbs that people have never taken before. Few users know if they are allergic to the herbs contained in these concoctions. These leaves open the possibility that if you use one of these products, you could have an allergic reaction, and would not be able to tell exactly which herb is causing the allergic reaction since the herbs are normally mixed into a proprietary formula. Allergic reactions can sometimes be life-threatening such as in Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. If throat or tongue swelling occurs, this can cause an inability to breathe. Low blood pressure can cause fainting. Though there have been few reports of allergic reactions to detoxification herbs, non-fatal uncomfortable reactions are frequent.

Diarrhea – Diarrhea is a frequent side effect of detox products. In fact, many detox pills are designed to induce diarrhea and many users consider diarrhea as evidence that the pill is causing a detoxification effect. Since many of these pills work by dilution, the diarrhea is merely an uncomfortable attempt at producing the feeling of being detoxed, even when the blood and urine are not truly being detoxified of illicit substances, unless that substance was taken orally and ejected from the digestive tract.

Stomach rupture – there is one report of a drug user using large doses of baking soda in an attempt to detox from drugs, particularly THC and experiencing so much stomach gas and bloating that the stomach ruptured, requiring life-saving efforts and a long hospital stay.

Electrolyte Imbalance – drinking large amounts of water can lead to many different types of electrolyte imbalances. Potassium, magnesium, chloride, and sodium can all become out of balance from using detox pills and drinking excessive amounts or too little water. This can result in seizures, cerebral hemorrhage, convulsions, and other severe health problems. Never drink an uncomfortable amount of water to pass a drug test. You only need enough water to increase urine output to a level of lite dilution. If your urine is too dilute, your sample will be disqualified and your health will be at risk.

Acidosis, alkalosis – Taking too much baking soda can cause a dangerous alkalosis of the blood. Metabolic acidosis can be caused by liver failure from herbs or other substances like niacin which can overload the liver at high doses. Therefore, it’s important to always know what exactly is in your detox product and how safe it is. It may also be reasonable to test the product for any unexpected reactions by first trying a low, sample dose before following through with full dosage strength.

Water Pills:  Will Water Pills help you pass a drug test?

Some people attempt to use water pills or diuretics to pass a drug test. Water pills can indeed aid in a strategy called dilution, in which the user drinks lots of water and takes water pills, electrolytes, creatine, and b-vitamins to pass a drug test.

However, the addition of a diuretic can be dangerous because it can cause your electrolyte levels to get greatly out of balance. Most detox pills use an herbal diuretic which can be much easier on the system, or even coffee or tea as a diuretic. It is important when using dilution to make sure electrolyte levels remain normal as water intoxication, seizure, and death can occur from drinking too much water.

Niacin

Niacin is a popular method, if outdated, for attempting to beat a urine drug test. Here is how people have attempted to use niacin to beat a drug test:
Steps:

      1. Immediately stop doing drugs when you know you will need to take a drug test. 1 to 3 days before your test, start your niacin flush.
      2. Take 500 milligrams of niacin with 16 ounces of water every six hours, not to exceed 2000 grams in a day.
      3. Drink plenty of water and urinate frequently. Make sure the water you drink contains salt and electrolytes to avoid toxicity from water intoxication.
      4. On test day, take 500 mg in the morning and 500 mg before your test.5. You might also want to take a b-vitamin and a 2-gram dose of creatine 2 hours before your test to make sure your urine is not too dilute.
      5. Take your urine test as usual.

Risks

High doses of niacin are dangerous. Doses of niacin above 2 grams per day require a doctor’s monitoring. Doses of 500 mg can cause flushing and a panic sensation. Higher doses, above 2 grams per day, over an extended period can result in liver toxicity which can be life-threatening. There are several case reports on pubmed.gov of persons using niacin to beat a drug test only to end up with life-threatening liver failure (Eswaran, Alvey, and Fayek).

Therefore, if you are going to use niacin to attempt to beat a drug test, do not take more than a normal, OTC, supplement dose. You don’t want to wind up hospitalized and having to tell the doctor you took an overdose of niacin in an attempt to beat a drug test because you will have to tell as he will need that information to save your life.

What Pills Can Cleanse your System of Weed?

We recommend you check out our detox section to find the best pills to detox for your particular purpose. From our research, a detox pill or drink should contain the following things, in order of importance:

      1. A detox strategy that involves dilution. Dilution is when you water down the blood and urine so that drug metabolites make up less of the volume of urine. When you do this, you have to replace electrolytes, creatine, and b-vitamins. This can be done with or without a patented detox pill.
      2. It must contain creatine.
      3. It must contain b-vitamins.
      4. It should contain zinc which is scientifically proven to alter drug tests in your favor.
      5. Needs an herbal diuretic.

If you get a detox product which does not have either of these, you can buy them separately very cheaply.

FAQ

Q: Are detox pills made to work for all drugs?
A: Yes. Most detox pills are geared toward flushing THC or diluting THC-COOH. Since THC remains in the body longer than any other drug, anything that works for THC will have no problem working for other drugs.

Q: Can detox pills be detected by a test?
A: Detox pills which contain all natural ingredients generally cannot be detected because the herbs and vitamins used are not illegal and can be found in common foods.

Q: Why should a detox pill contain zinc?
A: Zinc is scientifically proven to produce false negatives in your favor for several different drugs.

A 2013 study in the American Journal of Clinical Pathology found that zinc sulfate adulteration produces false negatives for several drugs including alcohol (Welsh, Dierksen, and Actor).
A 2011 study in the Journal of Analytical Toxicology found that zinc supplementation reduced the ability of ELISA urine testing to detect THC, methamphetamine, and benzoylecgonine (cocaine metabolite).
A detox pill which contains zinc will, therefore, have more mechanisms of action to help ensure that you pass your drug test than one without.

Q: Why does a detox pill need creatine?
A: Urine drug tests will measure a byproduct of metabolism called creatinine. If your urine does not contain the expected creatinine level, it will be marked as diluted and your sample will be rejected. You may fail or be allowed to retest.

Whenever you use a product which works by dilution and drinks large amounts of fluid, the creatinine level in your urine will be decreased, along with the levels of various drugs you are trying to hide. In order to bring the creatinine level back up to normal, you need to supplement with extra creatine. Creatine is a popular bodybuilding supplement available at stores like GNC and Walmart. 2 to 5 grams of creatine per day is well tolerated.

Conclusion

Detox pills usually have an extended detox period and a hefty price tag. If you truly feel that you need to detox for health reasons, this may be necessary and may give you a placebo boost if nothing else. However, dilution and abstinence are primarily responsible for passing drug tests so the extended period of detox only adds to the days of abstinence, and the water provides some measure of dilution. So, if you need to detox quickly, you may be better off using dilution or a detox drink with dilution rather than pills with an extended detox program.
