Origins, Genetics, History
Laughing Buddha Type: Laughing Buddha is a hybrid of the following strains:
- A Thai Sativa
- A Jamaican Sativa
Laughing Buddha hails from a hub of Theravada Buddhism in Thailand. Its other parent is from the rugged island of Jamaica. It blends the meditative peace of Buddhist meditation and the good-natured fun of the Jamaican island. With a tradition of Rastafarianism, Jamaicans take their marijuana very seriously as it is part of the spiritual side of things. These two areas have treated this plant with respect for centuries and more. Laughing Buddha was a 3rd place winner at the 2003 Cannabis Cup. The breeders of this strain from Barney Farms in the Netherlands took another victory of many with this energizing strain.
Appearance and Smell
This is truly a busty plant, with beautiful buds blooming all over the place. A blanket of sticky trichomes envelop the plant, packing a mad punch of potent THC and other cannabinoids. The leaves are a yellowish light green color. This is a tall plant which takes some expertise to grow correctly.
Hints of lemony goodness spills from these buds. You get the taste of delicious fruit in your mouth. You also get hints of spice like ginger. You can tell this plant comes from the tropics. Its potent fragrance indicates the presence of terpenes like myrcene and limonene, which are also found in fruits like lemon and mango. There’s even a hint of fresh nuts in the aroma.
How to Grow Laughing Buddha Cannabis Seeds or Cuttings
Growing weed from Laughing Buddha cannabis seeds and cuttings is said to be of high difficulty. This plant will take two weeks longer to flower, but then deliver a bounty of sticky weed. It can be grown indoors or outside. Inferring from its parentage in Jamaica and Thailand, this strain can use a lot of sun and thrive in a warm, Mediterranean to tropical environment.
Indoors, cultivators can expect these plants to flower in 10 weeks. You can get as much as a whopping 22 oz for each meter squared of space.
Outdoors, Laughing Buddha will produce a yield of 22 ounces per each plant. You will want to plant a little earlier since it will take longer to flower and wait till the end of October to harvest the heavy buds.
Medicinal Marijuana Review
Laughing Buddha is primarily sought for its ability to relieve depression and mood disorders. People with a hypersensitivity to fear and pain sometimes can’t get a break during the course of normal life from obsessive negative thoughts and sensations. They require pharmacological intervention, not our usual moralizing about ‘pick yourself up by your bootstraps’. That is rhetoric of a bygone era. The new era is one of biohacking. The body is a physical organism and it can be engineered like any other physical system. Plants, bacterium, viruses, and fungi long discovered how to biohack an animal. The marijuana plant joined us in partnership to hack our endocannabinoid system and thus reduce inflammation and promote a positive mood and health. In return, the human animal grows the marijuana plant all over the world.
Laughing Buddha can also be effective in cases of chronic pain, nausea, or insomnia. Use your doctor’s discretion as to what dose may be needed for each of these symptoms.
